The incident occurred on Friday evening along the Iwhrekpokpor Road near Imoniyame Junction.
Sources said the gunmen reportedly traced the victim to the scene of incident and shot him while reversing his car to park in front of his wife shop.
The gunmen numbering two fled the scene after ensuring that their target had given up the ghost.
“The gunmen fled immediately after killing him. They didn’t collect anything from the car. They ensured that he died before they left”, a resident of the area confided on our correspondent on Saturday.
It was gathered that the deceased, who was embroiled in a land tussle with some undisclosed persons leading to his arrest on Thursday, was also a local politician in the town before he met his untimely death.
One of our sources, however, alleged that the deceased could have been killed by suspected cultists who are in rivalry in Ughelli.
