A suspected phone thief has been reportedly burnt to death after robbing a woman who was returning from Delta Mall Effurun housing Shoprite in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The unidentified man was caught by youths comprising Keke Napep drivers while fleeing with the woman’s phone.

The incident occurred at about 10am on Sunday.

WARRI TODAY learnt that the mob caught the suspect after chasing him into the pipeline area where he was reportedly caught and was severely beaten.

He was, however, set ablaze after being thoroughly beaten by the mob around the popular Effurun roundabout where he dead.

Sources around the area told our correspondent that the corpse of the deceased was evacuated on Monday by officials of Uvwie and policemen from Ebrumede Police Station.

A police officer at the Ebrumede Police Station confirmed the incident but said no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, could not been reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
