Gunmen Kill Two Mobile Policemen, Civilian In Delta Night Club

Two mobile policemen attached to Club 316 by Old Ekete Junction in Udu Local Government  Area of Delta State have been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen.

The hoodlums also killed  a civilian and carted away riffles belonging to the late policemen when they attacked the popular club last night in the Ekete area of Udu.

The incident, NIGER DELTA TODAY Online reliably learnt, happened at about 12:30am on Wednesday.

The two police officers whose identities our correspondent could not immediately revealed were shot dead during a gun dwell with the gunmen.

It was learnt that the deceased policemen were deployed to the club from the northern part of the country.

The Ekete, Ovwian, Orhuwhorun and other major towns of Udu LGA have been under heavy armed men attacks in recent.

Last month, gunmen suspected to be assailants around the Ekete Junction also shot dead one Mr. Onovughe Jovi, a son of the owner of popular Jovi Garden Hotel situated along the Otor-Udu Road by Otuama Quarters of Udu.

Sources told our correspondent that the gunmen stormed the club in an effort to attack relaxation seekers when the deceased policemen confronted them, a situation, that resulted to sporadic gunshots between the cops and the hoodlums.

It was learnt that the gunmen numbering six killed two of the policemen and a civilian believed to be relaxation seeker on the spot.

“The deceased policemen attempted to confront the gunmen numbering about six when a shot out ensued between the gunmen and the policemen. Two of the Mopols were killed on the spot with their service riffles carted away by the gunmen.

“A civilian was also killed during the attack. We learnt that the Mopols were drafted from one of the Mopol bases in the north. They are not attached to the Delta State Police Command”, a source confided on our correspondent on Wednesday.

Police sources at the Burutu Area Command in Ovwian/Aladja confirmed the attack.

They also confirmed that the deceased policemen were also not from the state police command.

However, efforts to get official response from the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, proved abortive.

Calls and SMS sent to his telephone line on the incident were neither answered nor replied by the Delta police chief as at the time of filing this report.
