The Delta State Police Command has arrested a pregnant woman and mother of seven children for reportedly stabbing her husband to death at Ohoro town in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the deceased was stabbed on his chest during a disagreement with his 30-year-old wife on Sunday night with a knife.
The deceased, Jonathan Otomi Umamode, was said to have died on the spot.
The acting Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.
The Command confirmed that the suspect, Blessing Emmanuel, has been arrested and had confessed to have committed the crime out of anger.
According to the statement, “The suspect who was later arrested is a mother of seven and pregnant with her 8th child confessed to the crime and said she angrily stabbed her husband who she claimed does not take care of her and the children.
“That she has been taking care of herself and her kids, she sells fried chicken, on that fateful day according to the suspect, her husband came and demanded she go home with him which she refused.
“She said the deceased gathered her fried chickens, poured kerosene and set them ablaze, she angrily used the knife in her hand to stab the husband in his heart and ran away.”
The police spokesman, while noting that the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of the Ughelli Central Hospital awaiting autopsy, said the case was being investigated.
Meanwhile, operatives of ‘B’ Division in Warri have recovered two locally cut-to-size guns and tricycle abandoned by suspected criminals while on patrol along Giwamu in Okumagba Avenue in Warri.
DSP Edafe, who similarly confirmed the incident, said “On the 7/4/2021 at about 2250hrs, men of ‘B’ division Warri patrol team while on patrol along Giwamu Street Warri sighted a tricycle with three occupants and immediately they sighted the police, they abandoned the tricycle and ran into nearby bush.
“On searching the abandoned tricycle with Reg. No GUE 477 VC, two (2) locally cut-to-size single barrel guns were recovered. Effort is ongoing in view of arresting the fleeing suspects.”
